Ruth Clarkson

Ruth Clarkson is a distinguished Special Counsel at Arcadia Intellectual Property, bringing over three decades of expertise in the intellectual property sector. She holds a Master of Science and a Bachelor of Science with First Class Honours from the University of Sydney. As a registered Patent Attorney in both Australia and New Zealand, and a registered Trade Marks Attorney in Australia, Ruth's practice spans a diverse range of IP matters. Ruth's extensive experience includes drafting and prosecuting patent applications across various domains such as organic chemistry, mineral chemistry, pharmaceuticals, medical treatment methods, formulations, industrial chemistry, and chemical engineering. Her proficiency extends to conducting opposition proceedings before the Australian Patent Office and managing IP disputes in Australian courts. Her professional journey commenced in 1988, leading to her qualification as a Patent Attorney in 1993. Ruth's early career was shaped at Spruson & Ferguson, where she initially served as a Technical Assistant before advancing to a Senior Associate role. She later honed her expertise further at Shelston Waters, contributing significantly to the firm over nearly a decade. Following this, she resumed her influential role at Spruson & Ferguson until 2015. In 2016, Ruth took a brief hiatus to support her family, returning to the field in 2017 with Arcadia Intellectual Property. Her professional memberships include being a Fellow of the Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys Australia and a member of the Royal Australian Chemical Institute, reflecting her commitment to the advancement of the IP profession.
