Michael Knopf

Michael Knopf brings over 23 years of legal expertise to his role as a Partner at KM Law. As an Accredited Specialist in Family Law, his extensive knowledge spans several areas, including elder law and criminal law. Michael is frequently seen representing clients in the Federal Circuit and Family Court of Australia, providing them with adept legal advice and advocacy. Since joining KM Law in 2014, Michael has been instrumental in guiding clients through complex family law matters, including pre-nuptial agreements and de facto and same-sex matters. His practice also covers conveyancing, wills and estates, and representation in criminal law cases. Earlier in his career, he served as the Principal of Knopf Law, where he broadened his legal repertoire to include intervention order proceedings, elder law at VCAT, and mental health reviews. Prior to his current role, Michael honed his skills at various esteemed firms. At Rudstein Kron Lawyers, he managed intricate family law cases, handled estate administration, and appeared in civil litigation and elder law matters. His tenure at Kennedy Guy saw him engaging in commercial and civil litigation, bankruptcy, and handling diverse Magistrates Court cases. Michael's career began at Cannon Coburn & Associates, where he developed his foundation in family law, de facto property matters, wills and probate, and children’s court cases. His legal journey was further enriched by his early role as a researcher at the Supreme Court Court of Appeal. Academically, Michael holds a Bachelor of Laws from La Trobe University, complementing his Bachelor of Arts with Honours from the University of Melbourne, and a Diploma of Education from Melbourne State College. This rich educational background supports his thorough understanding and approach to a wide array of legal issues.
