About Ken
Ken Mackenzie is the Managing Partner at Mackenzie Mitchell Solicitors, a firm he founded to bring his extensive experience to Queensland. Initially qualified in Queensland, Ken honed his skills with crime specialists Ryan & Bosscher before moving to England. In London, he became a prominent part of Fisher Meredith Solicitors, one of the largest defence operations, and cross-qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales. His pivotal career move came in 2005 when he joined Hickman & Rose, a leading firm in human rights and criminal defence. During his time there, Ken was involved in complex cases, including serious charges such as murder and major drug importation. A highlight of his career was working alongside Ben Rose on the appeal that led to the exoneration of Andrew Adams, who was wrongfully convicted of murder and served 14 years in prison. Seeking to return to Australia for family and sunshine, Ken established Mackenzie Mitchell Solicitors in Brisbane in February 2008. His practice offers Active Defence to clients involved in a wide range of legal matters. Ken represents clients in employer, police, and CCC investigations, inquests, and criminal proceedings across various courts, including the Magistrates, District, Supreme Courts, and the Court of Appeal. His caseload is diverse, covering everything from traffic offences to homicides, and involving serious fraud and drug crimes. Ken's expertise extends to representing witnesses before the Crime and Corruption Commission's secret hearings and conducting applications for special leave to appeal to the High Court of Australia. He has a keen interest in addressing misconduct by public officials and the abuse of authority, including by police officers. Ken's commitment to the legal profession is evident in his long-standing service on the Criminal Law Committee of the Queensland Law Society, where he served as Deputy Chair. He has also represented the Society in governmental reviews of police powers and provided evidence to Parliamentary Committees regarding legislation affecting police and criminal law.
